Press Release :: May 12, 2010 TACA CRAFT FAIR SERVES AS COLLECTION SITE FOR SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANKOF MIDDLE TENNESSEE DONATIONS Annual event gathered more than 900 pounds of canned food NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Association of Craft Artists(TACA) partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennesseeduring the 39th Annual TACA Tennessee Craft Fair. The Nashvillecommunity and TACA artists worked together to collect 930 pounds offood, benefiting victims of the historic flooding in Nashville and thehungry in Middle Tennessee. “TACA is proud to have provided the craft fair as a donationsite for Second Harvest’s efforts,” said ElaineWood, executive director of TACA. “The work they do on aday-to-day basis is remarkable. To see the way they mobilized in ourcity’s time of need, we couldn’t pass up theopportunity to help.” The 39th Annual TACA Tennessee Craft Fair was just one of many fooddrives going on last weekend. According to the Second Harvest Food Bankof Middle Tennessee’s blog, other efforts included theTennessee Renaissance Festival, collecting 1,625 pounds of food; asoccer tournament at Brentwood’s Crockett Park gathering morethan 2,000 pounds; and Nashville’s annual IroquoisSteeplechase yielding 1,964 pounds of food. “With only five days to get the word out about the fooddrive, we were excited to see what level of response our visitors andartists would present and they did not disappoint! This is truly a cityof volunteers and those who attended the craft fair were no exception.The generosity of Nashville’s residents was on full displayat our event.” Ms. Wood said. The TACA Craft Fairs are produced by the Tennessee Association of CraftArtists (TACA), an independent, statewide nonprofit organization andrecipient of the Tennessee Governor’s Award in the Arts. Bymaintaining high standards of excellence, the Tennessee Association ofCraft Artists is appreciated for producing festivals representing thefinest in American craftsmanship.
